What is shielding, and why should one shield?

We are energy, and energy flows and ebbs. Feeling overwhelmed, being empathic, dealing with intense or difficult situation, personal privacy are just some of the reasons a person might want to shield.
A shield is exactly what the name implies, and it is created with your energy and visualizing.
There are many ways to shield, from basic to impregnable to reflective. The type of shield you use would depend upon the given situation, as well as your own ability to create an effective shield.

Here is what I consider an absolutely basic shield that is the easiest to start with in my opinion.

First off, I suggest always being grounded and centered before you shield.

Visualization is an important tool in all energy work.
There is one visual that almost everyone has seen that is perfect for learning how to shield. It comes from the movie, The Wizards of Oz.
The ‘bubble’ that Glinda the Good Witch floats down in, is an excellent visual for a beginner shield.

This is the easiest visual I can think of to explain to beginners, and it is very effective.
In time you will be able to ‘feel’ your shield.

There is much more to shielding then this, but I feel this is a good starting point.
